In brief: Depending on what the facilitator calls, the group called ‘Stick’ or ‘Stone’ will need to run.
Intensity: High
Introduction: A competitive game that tests the players’ reactions and attention to details.
Prop(s): None. Need a boundary/court.
How to play:
- Divide the group into 2 teams.
- The teams stand in 2 lines in the middle of the game area, backs facing each other, with 1 meter between teams.
- Mark a ‘home’ line for each team about 5 meters in front of it.
- Name 1 team ‘Stick’ and the other team ‘Stone’.
- You will call out either ‘Stick’ or ‘Stone’.
- The members of the team that has not been called must try to run to the ‘home’ line as fast as possible.
- The team that has been called will try to tag as many members of the other team as possible before the latter reaches ‘home’.
- Those caught will have to join the winning team.
Caution:
- Avoid rough ground.
- Tagging is restricted to only the shoulders.
Variation(s):
- Instead of ‘Stick’ and ‘Stone’, use words that have special significance to the groups. It will, of course, be more exciting when the starting sounds for both words are similar.
2. The game can be played with 4 groups standing in a square formation (see picture), their backs facing one another. The 4 words could then be ’stick’, ‘stone’, ’star’ and ’stool’.
