In brief: Number with 7 or divisible by 7, say “Up!”
Intensity: Low
Introduction: A game I learned from a group of kids. Great for passing time.
Prop(s): None
How to play:
- Decide the order of players’ turns.
- Call out numbers, in ascending order, starting from ’1’.
- Whenever the digit ‘7’ or any number divisible by 7 appears in the sequence, the person whose turn it is must say, “Up!”
- This goes on until someone makes a mistake (some kind of forfeit will increase the fun of the game, of course), and the game starts from ‘1’ again.
- There should not be more than a second between turns.
- The first 30 turns would go like this: “1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, up, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, up, 15, 16, up , 18, 19, 20, up, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, up, up, 29, 30.”
Variation(s):
- To make the game more challenging, demarcate another digit, e.g. 4, as the ‘up’ digit. If a number comes up that fulfils the conditions for both ‘4’ and ‘7’ (e.g. the number ‘47’ both contains a ‘4’ and ‘7’; and the number ‘28’ is a digit that is divisible by both ‘4’ & ‘7’), the player will have to say, “Up-up.”
- Curry, Furry – Similar to Variation 1, but instead of saying “Up-up”, use “Curry” for digit ‘4’ and “Furry” for digit ‘7’. The first 30 turns would go like this: “1, 2, 3, Curry, 5, 6, Furry, Curry, 9 , 10, 11, Curry, 13, Curry-Furry, 15, Curry, Furry, 18, 19, Curry, Furry, 22, 23, Curry, 25, 26, Furry, Curry-Furry, 29, 30.”
