Talking Ball

In brief: Use a ball to get members to take turns to speak.

Intensity: Low

Introduction: Have a team that is talkative and where members keep interrupting one another? Here is a way to manage it.

Prop(s): A ball.

How to play:

  • Name a ball the ‘talking ball’ and give it to the team.
  • Only the person with the ‘talking’ ball can speak. The rest must keep quiet and listen.balls-talking-ball-800pix

Variation(s):

  1. The ‘talking’ ball can be used as an introductory activity to get the members to describe themselves. For some reasons, members seem more comfortable introducing themselves when they have something to fidget. Upon introducing themselves, they will pass the ball to someone else. Ask them to avoid passing the ball to adjacent members – e.g. in ‘Time Warp’.

If you have a large group (50 or above), use the talking ball as a mean to select contributor for review. Throw the ball randomly to a member. When he/she has finished speaking, the person will throw the ball randomly to the next person. If the ball falls onto the floor, the person nearest the ball will be the next speaker.
