Animal Farm

In brief: Players get into groups using only animals noise.

Intensity: Medium

Introduction: If you are looking for a loud and messy way to get your participants into groups, here is one!

Prop(s): None

How to play:

  • Get the members to assign themselves letters of the alphabet, e.g. if you need to form 5 teams, have the first 5 members label themselves from A to E, then repeat this for the next 5 members and so on until every member has a letter between A and E.
  • Next, ask them to find other members with the same letter by imitating the actions and sounds of an animal beginning with that letter.

Variation(s):

  1. To increase the level of difficulty, you may restrict the type of animals that can be imitated, e.g. no dogs, cats, or elephants. It will be fun to see how they differentiate between alligator and crocodile.
  2. Instead of using animals, you can ask the members to act out inanimate objects (eg A for aeroplane, B for ball, etc). No talking is allowed.
  3. Or you could ask them to act out the shape of the letters. No talking is allowed.
  4. Notes to the Facilitator:
  • Players sometime get round the game by pronouncing the sound of the letters they have been assigned to. Frontload the players they must used sounds from animals. “There is no animals that make sound such as ‘Ae… Ae… Ae…’, ‘Be… Be… Be…’ or ‘Ci… Ci… Ci…’!”
  • On the other hand, if you need a quick but quiet way to get your participants into groups, see “Shhh…!”.
